Never underestimate the power of the watch . . .

Imagine my surprise today when I was walking across campus, and suddenly - heart attack! I just knew it! University and Deaconess Hospitals are right on campus. As the world started to go a little fuzzy, and my left arm was going numb from a shooting pain, coupled with the staggering pain in my chest, I stared at the sign for Deaconess straight ahead and hoped for the best. Maybe someone will make sure I get there. The pain was now coursing through my body, shooting up to my left eye and into my brain. I got out my rarely-used cell and tried to call Tim. No luck. I was going to say, "Goodbye." I truly thought this was it.

As I was clutching the purse and dialing my phone, I caught a glimpse of the watch on my left wrist. It was my dress watch, I rarely wear it, and somehow it had gotten pushed up my arm to the point it was cutting off circulation.

I removed my watch. My 'heart attack' was gone. Fancy that!

Watches rule our lives. They make us hurry when we are running late. They make us frustrated when we are early. Little did I know, they can also make us think we are dying.

Husband and I were up in Michigan this week, frantically running from hospital to hospital in a total crazed haze. I assumed the pain from shoulder to shoulder, and the whole length of my sternum, was due to stress. I think my bronchial congestion was breaking up. Now that the above scare is over, there is little pain. I am blocked again, though.

Sigh.
