Blimey, eh!?

I just realized something.

"Candy Apple Red" is a suicide song. That's why it says "Sun going down for the last time today" and he asks people to pray for him. His hands are numb, here it comes . . . and saying the Our Father at the end.

Wow. Pretty profound for a six year old, eh? I always was a little more mature than others.

But that was kind of the thing in the late 60s - early 70s. Songs about dying & suicide. "Seasons in the Sun" (terry jacks), "Honey" (bobby goldsboro), "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" (vicki lawrence - I KNOW!), Wildfire (michael murphy), Timothy (about the coalminers - don't know who it's by), "Ode to Billie Joe" (bobbie gentry), and all of those. And why are most of the people who wrote them Canadian, eh? Any others you can think of?

Thank the gods a good-old fashioned British band had the wherewithal to stop the madness in 1980!

Thanks, Freddie!
